The book was not posted with a photo, so I didn’t realize it was vegtable gardening and not flower. The book looked a little faded.

Book arrived quickly for Christmas season even through media mail. Excellent condition. Book itself has photos which seem outdated – just a bit of a 1980’s feel to it.

I checked this out of the library before my husband and I started our very first vegetable garden together…I ended up buying it because I liked it so much. My hubs was brand new to growing and I had some experience working on an organic farm. It was easy for both of us to understand. Many of the practices explained in the book(wide rows, composting, green manure, etc) were used on the farm I volunteered at. The book has plenty of color pictures and drawings, which I found very helpful. There’s some great general information(composting, soil type/pH, fertilizer, diseases/pests, and breakdown of what to do with each type of plant), tips for maximizing yield, example garden plans, wide row planting, and Raymond’s anecdotes/personal preferences. It was well worth the money, I only wish it came in hardcover, as I know it will be a handy reference for years to come. Sometimes I had trouble finding info on certain plants because things were explained in two different sections, but that’s what an index is for, right?
