Knew this book from living in the UK. Fantastic to see a US edition, just what I needed as I start gardening again over here. Geoff Hamilton has done so much to influence UK gardening, I’d forgotten how much. Couldn’t recommend this book more. He was so very practical, creative and scientific at the same time, and a genius for finding simple, common sense solutions to complex problems.

First I was disappointed due to the lack of detail in this book, however later I found that I kept opening it up to get some advice before I planted something new in my garden. It is tough to cover everything about gardening in a single book, so if you look at it that way he does a great job. You can get the basics with this book, and if you still need further detail get a specific book for that question or look it up online. The pictures are beautiful, so I can see this book as a winter chaser, getting your mind prepared for the spring.

Great overall gardening book. It has tips on preparing the soil and goes vegetable by vegetable on what kind of care they need, bugs etc. Also has ideas for green house gardening and other garden layouts and structures.
